About Us

Welcome to DEFMIS

The Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme Registered Trustees (DEFMIS), is a post retirement medical insurance scheme for members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and their dependants. The Formation of the Scheme was informed by the fact that:

  • the healthcare provided by government to serving members ends immediately upon their retirement
  • retirees were vulnerable to poor health due to old-age related conditions.
  • high cost of medical care
Fully paid up members contribute for a period of 20 years at the rate of 3.1% depending on when one joined the Scheme. DEFMIS has a network of contracted health care providers who offer inpatient and outpatient services to retirees and dependants countrywide.
